New Single

Saw this truck stopped at the lights outside our place and thought it was worth a quick snap. We see these trucks quite often, driving around advertising Japanese pop music stars. They play samples of the music for the masses to enjoy. I wonder how much it actually helps their sales.

Still the music is slightly better than that played by the Japanese nationalists / fascists in their sound trucks.

Mandalavandalz – King of the Bad Trips

MANDALAVANDALZ KING OF THE BAD TRIPS

MANDALAVANDALZ KING OF THE BAD TRIPS

Finish psychedelic legends Mandalvandalv new album King of the Bad Trips will be released August 29. Really looking forward to picking up a copy:)

The 6 Dimension Soundz website had this to say about their 11th release:

6 Dimension Soundz are proud to announce the release of “King of the Bad Trips” by stable favourites MANDALAVANDALZ. A major breakthrough in the art of sheer madness, “King of the Bad Trips” is MANDALAVANDALZ 5th release with 6 Dimension Soundz and the labels 11th release.

Since their first album with 6D-Soundz “POISON MACHINE” was released 3 years ago these giants of psychedelic mayhem have won the hearts and spangled the minds of the forest loving kichigai community. 5 albums is a lot of music to have put together and this album keeps on racking
up and cracking fans expectations.

With leaps of bass and bounds of drums, MANDALAVANDALZ have kept on making their byzantinelly unique and spaced out original tracks. None of their fans are going to want to miss out on King of the Bad Trips!

You can listen to sample mp3’s of each track for free by clicking here: MANDALAVANDALZ KING OF THE BAD TRIPS – New Release.

The CD should be available soon from Saiko Sounds.

Bom!

Very Very Japanese Country Rock Star

When I first came to Japan I lived in Akita. Everyone there spoke very strange Japanese, but I thought it was normal. And one day someone introduced be to Yoshi Ikuzo who is a “traditional Japanese enka singer” from Aomori (the top-most province of Japan’s main island). His hometown, Kanagi-cho is one of the places Alan Booth visited in his book Looking for the Lost: Journeys Through a Vanishing Japan.

Yoshi’s accent is close to the Akita one, so listening to him was good for my studying.

Here is a video of one of his songs remixed. A classic:

He has quite a sense of humour which makes his music more interesting than most Japanese enka singers, kind of like the Japanese Johnny Cash. I have a Yoshi Ikuzo t-shirt which I was wearing when we arrived in Finland. It says Ikuzo with a big star around it and looks like a heavy metal t-shirt, so this video is very apt. The place we stayed at in Helsinki was over-run by heavy metal fans who were going to a big metal festival. The Ikuzo t-shirt was a great way to make friends…

Thanks to D.Y.E.chan for posting this on mixi!

NEW FREAKDANCE RECORDS SKULL CRACKER T-SHIRTS ARE HERE!

The good-ole Freakdance skull logo has been revamped, reborn and brutally sodomized by label hustler Jere Häkkinen (Luomuhappo) – he has handpainted & re-sketched our company logo by hand and transformed it into a brand new level of fartistical approach!

These brand new Freakdance Records (TM)(C)(R) skull-cracker t-shirts are now internationally available from our webshop in colours such as … well, as Glenn Danzig would put it: “Black, black, The black is back, I am the blackest of the black of time!” – But don’t you worry, in the midst of all this blackness, the beautiful white print on these babies does not only glow in UV light alone, but THESE SHIRTS GLOW IN THE DARK AS WELL! Now how cool is that, you can spook out your acidhead friends in dark rave caves?? HUH ??

Take a look at the shirt here: http://www.freakdancerecords.net/images/fdpaita2_large.jpg

The price is 15 euros a piece and the total print has been limited to 100 copies, so get yours before they disappear from the face of the earth. The shirts are only available for men for the time being, but we will get some models for the ladies very soon! :) Be patient, o’ titted ones! <3

For our Finnish customers / HUOMIO SUOMALAASET PEOPLE!!!: order two CD’s, get the shirt for 10 euros. It doesn’t get any cheaper than that, and if any of you hippie bums still have the nerve to complain about the prices, we’ll hit you in the face with a hammer. Offer valid inside Finland only, sorry.

Our international web shop is at http://www.freakdancerecords.net -> mailorder

If you don’t want one, you can always order one for me for my birthday. It is only 6 months away you know!

6 Soundz 5th Anniversary Party Update

Just a quick update to say that the 6 Dimension Soundz Party this weekend is sold out. I have updated the page on the 6D Soundz website with the timetable for the main stage. There will be no gate sales. So you will have to look forward to next time.

If you have booked and are going – here is how to get to the camp site from the Otsuki Interchange:

It is about 35 kilometers (60 minutes if the road isn’t too busy) from the Otsuki Interchange. At the Otsuki Interchange you want to turn onto Route 20 in the direction of Hachioji. You will travel past Otsuki Railway Station and then come turn left onto Route 139 heading towards Lake Okutama. When you get to Kosuge-mura Village you should see signs for the Camping Ground (玉川キャンプ場). You will then turn right and you will be at the camp ground. If you get to Lake Okutama you have gone too far.

And here is a google map link showing the Tamagawa Camp Ground.

It should be a rocking party, and the weather looks like it is going to be good for camping too. The place they are holding the party was where I saw my third snake. There is a nice hot bath there too.

Taking Product Descriptions to the Next Level

Vestax PMC-08PRO Hybrid Digital MixerOne of the things I have been doing recently is writing product descriptions for DJ gear, particularly for sale on ebay. Now, most of the product descriptions out there are pretty boring, so I thought I would give the process a new twist. It does make a difference – people invest time in reading about the products, and that leads to increased sales.

Here are a couple I have written today (I am posting these more as stories than as product descriptions…). The first one transposes Brad and Janet of Rocky Horror fame:

Vestax PCV-275 DJ mixer

Once upon a time all was dark and all was silent. A crowd of expectant punters grumbled and mumbled across the dance floor. Brad could feel a cold sweat upon his brow. He had no mixer. And without a mixer there would be no tunes. And with no tunes there would be a riot or worse.

Just then a voice from the great beyond boomed down to him “I have been to the mountain and I have found thee a mixer – a Vestax PCV-275 DJ mixer.” A bolt of lightning flashed across the forest, raining chubachubs down on the punters and striking the dj booth with all the force of ancient magic.

Once the smoke and the hubris had cleared, there lay the Vestax PCV-275 in all its magnificence. Cables snaked their way across the desk. And boom! the bass kicked in. With its 3 channels (3 decks/6 line/2 mics) with 3 band eq, and kill switches on each Brad knew he could save the party and the day.

The crowd went wild as he mixed in the melody line. Pulsating bodies felt the power flow.

From close by Brad could hear Janet moaning “Oh Brad, Oh Brad.” The Vestax PCV-275 had won the party.

And this one, with a bit of a Robert Louis Stephenson theme:

Vestax PMC-08PRO Hybrid Digital Mixer

The ship had broken upon the rocks the night before in the most terrible storm ever witnessed by woman or beast. Demarnia’s life had been on the line as she slipped in and out of consciousness, half wrapped around a friendly piece of flotsam.

Waking at dawn, damp and dazed on a sandy beach, Demarnia took a few minutes to gain her bearings, and also to realize that she was being watched. She had landed on the mystical island of the SlipMatt, and she was soon surrounded by the acid head freak SlipMatteans.

“You, our graceful visitor will play for us. Play well and we will spare you. Spin sh*t and you shall die,” a SlipMattean who appeared to be some sort of leader politely informed Demarnia.

Still groggy from her ordeal Demarnia looked around in panic. The expectant faces, the horror! the horror! They carried her from the shore on a bier of heavily scratched Rotterdam 12 inches up over a rise, through the forest for some time and into a clearing. The clearing had a heavily stomped floor and a white tent.

They laid here down inside the tent. She slowly got to her feet and got her bearings. On the desk was a brand spanking new Vestax PMC-08PRO Hybrid Digital Mixer. Demarnia could feel her confidence rising. This 2 channel digital mixer with its analog AD/DA conversion and digital signal processing at the lowest latency rate and the highest performance level was truly the greatest thing since sliced wholemeal bread. The cutting edge fader technology for extreme scratching – the most sensitive crossfader on the planet – would save her salty skin.

She got a groove going, she mixed in some funky beats. The SlipMatteans started to get into the mood. With the DSP EQ and the Vestax PMC-08PRO’s isolator features she made that grove sing, the deepest of deep and warm wafted out through the crowd and bang, bang, bang. Was that the sharpest kill ever!

Two hours passed like a Jesus and Mary Chain set. The SlipMatteans supplicated themselves in awe. The leader came forth with a crown of daisys.

Demarnia was spared. And they booked her for the next full moon party. All thanks to the Vestax PMC-08PRO Hybrid Digital Mixer.
