5 of the Worst: Japanese Food
We have another big 5 for you - The Worst Food in Japan - Lick your lips and enjoy!
1. Tea-flavoured spaghetti with icecream and fruit
Saw this in one of Chooch’s magazines. They also had version such as delectable strawberry spaghetti topped with whipped cream and kiwi fruit. This can be found in Nagoya at Kissa Mountain.
2. Natto-Coffee Jelly Sandwich
Including whipped cream, the Natto-Coffee Jelly Sandwich will tingle your tastebuds as it nails your nostrils with the delicate aroma of rotting soya beans. Also from Nagoya, served with love by the Kurama Sando Chain.
3. Lobster and a nice cold beer
From Toba City in Mie Prefecture, this one doesn’t sound nearly as terrible as it is. They take one perfectly good lobster and plunk it into a handle of your favorite, the clawed one imparting a good dose of salt into your hops.
4. Coffee Ramen
Ramen is one of the 3 staple food groups for your average salaryman with these bowls of steaming noodles powering them on through the night well past the last train. One restaurant in Tokyo has managed to give the bucolic bowl and added twist by adding breakfast beans to both the broth and the noodles. Patrons who find this all a little bitter are encouraged to add sugar and milk. The toppings? Pork, eggs and spring onions of course.
5. Genghis Khan Caramel
For desert you can’t beat Genghis Khan Caramel. Hokkaido has a strange affliction for the Mongolian monster, something to do with sheep. And on the basis of this tenuous connection our good friends from the frozen isle have brought the world just what it never needed - BBQ’d lamb flavoured caramel.
