Istanbul Lavash

Back in Europe for the first time since our trip to Estonia and Finland in 2004. Saw the sea for the first time in 9 months yesterday, and hope to head out to Princess Island near Istanbul for a swim tomorrow. Last time I went swimming was off the north coast of Honshuu – Japan. Looking forward to that.

Staying at a place called Sinbad Hostel. Bunkrooms and all, got them down to 6 euros a night which seems reasonable for here. Last night we took a “french” room at the Paris Hotel – 15 euros per person; a little pricey but nice to have some privacy for a change. Talking to a Japanese guy last night who was here a couple of years ago and things are almost twice the price now. People here work in new Turkish Lira *(YTL), US dollars and Euros so it is kind of confusing.

Had a shave this morning for the first time in a long time; Chooch is happy. Actually it was my first cut throat shave. Feels good.

You know, there are a lot of better hostels in Istanbul these days. Check the reviews on a Istanbul hostel reviews site to see some better options.

  2. Mike is right..there are definitely many more hostels which are a lot better than Sinbad. And Sinbad is not 6 Euros a night anymore…It is gone up to 10 Euros. So i would not stay at Sinbad either…

  3. Thanks for the comments. Always worth shopping around for things like hotels as they do change over time.
