Japanese Language Proficiency Test Results
Results are now out for the 2007 Japanese Language Proficiency Test held last December. I passed 3rd Grade in 2001 which seems like a very long time ago now, and this time I passed 2nd Grade which made me really happy. Third time lucky! 2nd grade is quite a step up from 3rd grade and required quite a lot of study for me to pass. Not using Japanese at work means there is quite a large swath of vocabulary that I don’t use in my normal life. It would be nice to use more Japanese at work – that would help improve my Japanese I think.
I think I will have a go at 1st Grade this year – and that is an even bigger leap than that from 3rd to 2nd grades. But they only hold the test once a year, and having missed the exam a couple of times travelling and whilst living in Xinjiang I don’t want to miss it this year. I don’t imagine I will have enough time to study all the kanji that are necessary to pass (you need 2000!) this year, but at least taking the exam gives one something to aim for and is good for ones motivation.
I just had a look at the website for the JLPT, and this years application period has not been posted yet. But if past years are anything to go by the application period for the 2008 JLPT will be around August.

Congratulations! I know waiting for two months must have not been easy.
I will say though, using Japanese at work doesn’t seem to help with the JLPT really. When I firsted attempted it I was defeated by lack of vocab. I think the only way to get that vocab is reading magazines and editorials in newspapers and what not.

i dont know much about the test in india, so i called the company =Japan Educational Exchanges and Service= who run the japanese language proficiency test. they said, the test results have been sent to india, and should arrive there soon.
so your results should come soon!

They have test centres in New Dehil, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore.

I don’t represent the testing authority – but I called them last year to answer some commenters here. Results will take a bit longer if it is the same as last year. It depends a lot on the postal system – so there can be delays because of that too.

Scoring good marks in Listening Session is very important in passing the exam. My daughter who appeared for JLPT level II in Dec 2008,in Chennai Tamil Nadu got 73% in theory but got only 37% in Listening because of the poor quality of audio session. Unlike in foreign countries, there is no acoustically treated room/hall for Listening Session of JLPT in India. This time, we have advised her to change the centre. Please let me know whether Pune or Delhi has proper acoustically treated room bcos appearing again and again and not passing, demoralises one and they lose their self confidence.
