Kiwi Prime Ministers Asian Tour
The New Zealand Prime Minister has finished the Chinese leg of her Asian tour after meeting Chinese President Hu Jintao in Beijing yesterday. Good to see her keeping topics like Taiwan, the environment and nuclear proliferation in the Korean Peninsula on the table whilst at the same time working towards a trade deal with the Chinese government. The Chinese seemed quite understanding about this and they in turn brought up the issue of American involvement in Japan.
The trade talks will continue over the next few months with visits to China by a range of New Zealand trade representatives. With talks on textile trade between China, the US and the EU having reached a stalemate it will be interesting to see follow the NZ talks to see if they can be settled in a mutually agreeable fashion.
