Korla Update

Just a little quickie from Korla.

We should be welcoming a new teacher to Circle English tomorrow, a Canadian apparently. So we should hear a few dulcet ehs around the dinner table which will be nice. That has been a while.

David has moved into Camilla, Kerryn et al’s flat. He bought a DVD player a week ago and should have the controls figured out by the end of the month.

Our Uighur teacher told us last night that there is a little zoo in Korla so we will be checking that out, wolves and all sometime in the near future.

On the food front, olive oil seems to have broken into the Korla market place. The little Uighur supermarket near our place has small 250ml bottles of Turkish olive oil for 30RMB and larger 500ml bottles for 49RMB. The larger supermarkets have 1 litre bottles for around 100RMB. We have also discovered parmesan cheese, tabasco sauce, tinned pineapple and a few other goodies. They are in little stores in the covered market behind the Golden Plaza shopping center and were there all the time!

Now we have everything we need to make good nachos, except for avocados - if we can work out how to make the chips.

And the weather is beautiful. T-shirts are out in force. Life is good.
