Learning Uighyr
Had our second Uighyr lesson last night. Working with a book called Al Baba (I think - still learning to read!) which is normally used by 4 year olds to learn how to write. Working through the alphabet at the moment. I must say it is much easier to learn than Chinese especially considering there are 32 sounds compared with the thousands of Chinese characters one has to learn to master Chinese.
Each of the sounds has up to 4 characters associated with it - depending on where in a word the letter falls. This is much like the Greek ’s’ which changes form depending on whether it is at the end of a word or in the middle.
It is certainly a beautiful feeling to be able to make out a word in a new alphabet. Naan was my first.
