Matsuzaka Memorabilia
With Japanese baseball player Daisuke Matsuzaka having recently signed a $52 million US deal with the Boston Red Socks (plus another $52 million going to his Japanese team - the Seibu Lions), and with all the controversy over his signing. interest in this hard pitching right-hander is certainly frenetic. Baseball fans throughout the United States will certainly be keenly following his performance in the 2007 season.
I was interested to see that one of my Canadian friends in Nara is selling some Matsuzaka memorabilia on ebay. He also sells traditional Japanese items such as woodblock prints, calligraphy, and carpenters tools such as chisels, awls and hammers - these tend to go pretty quickly. The picture above is one of the things he is offering - a life size stand alone poster of Matsuzaka. Here is his description:
This is your chance to get a LIFE-SIZE STAND-ALONE POSTER of DAISUKE MATSUZAKA, the 60-million dollar pitcher! This poster will be shipped from Japan. This was a not-for-sale item intended for promotional use by Mizuno, a Japanese sportswear company. Matsuzaka is young on this picture (the promotion that used the poster is dated 2000). The close-to life-size silhouette is 163cm high. IT HAS APPARENTLY NOT BEEN USED but rather kept in storage!
While the auction is running you can check out the Matsuzaka poster here. Pretty cool eh!
