Sarajevo Gathering

Gathering 3 Open Air Party, Barice, Sarajevo

Well our last day in Sarajevo has dawned and we will be taking a night train tonight to Belgrade - aka Beograd. Kind of sad to leave Sarajevo as it is a wonderful city, laid back and friendly despite its recent history.

Saturday morning we took Sonny’s tour - you can read a detailed write-up of it here. I would heartily recommend the tour as a window into the seige of 1992-1995 from a distinctily Bosnian perspective.

We watched England get beaten by Portugal on penalties. Penalties are a terrible way to decide the outcome of a game but especially after Wayne Rooney stomped Ricardo Carvalho it was an honourable result.

Then it was up into the hills above Sarajevo by taxi to Gathering 3. Held at a campsite type place in the hills above the city, the party was a feel good success. Attended by about 200 people - mostly locals but another guy from Japan, a Norwegian and an American???? (his family were diplomats so he was one of those wandering people) it showed that there is a good scene in Bosnia.

To be dancing in Sarajevo was one of the happiest things I have done on this trip. Shouts to the organisers and to Arronax for helping us out with everything. Hope we get to party with you again!

Also, finally got some photos up at Flickr. Finding internet cafes with USB has been a bit hit and miss…
