The Uighyr Graveyard
Sunday was a fine, if chilly, day which saw us head out of town to experience the Uighyr graveyard in the hills near Korla.
Settled amongst the hills is the Uighyr graveyard - covering a large expanse of the foothills and obviously covering a wide span of time. It was my first time to visit a Moslem cemetary and it was quite interesting to see what burial practices in another culture consist of. Still a number of questions - there were a number of pits or open graves around the cemetary. In a western graveyard one would normally only find graves dug as needed. Any answers?
