Tokyo Restaurants - Good Dishonest Grub
Had dinnner this evening with one of my good long time friends at Good Honest Grub in Harajuku, Tokyo.
We first went to Good Honest Grub at their main restaurant in Yebisu in 2000 when we were on a visit to Tokyo. The food was a delight from the heavens. They had vegetarian food. It was big. It was cheap. And it was delicious.
Since then though, Good Honest Grub seems to have lost the plot in a big way. The food servings now seem small and not worth the price. The vegetables were very fresh. The carrot was almost uncooked. And who would put carrot in quesadillas anyway?
We had a plate of dips as a starter. It was a tiny serving for the price.
The restaurant had a series of posters up on the wall including a poster advertising a kids birthday party serice in Tokyo. And it seems to me, amongst the gauche pastels and the misguided advertising that this Canadian venturte has bombed on its laurels.
If you are a restaurant (or any business in Japan) stick to your guns. Make it good. Make it simple. Make it rock.
