Truth, propaganda, football
Tomorrow Japan’s national football team is playing the North Korean team in their World Cup Qualifier in Bangkok, Thailand. Should Japan win tomorrow it will see the team through to the next world cup to be held in Germany.
This game was originally scheduled to be played in Pyonyang but has been shifted to Bangkok as FIFA were worried about the possible outcome of a Japanese victory. One would like to be able to say that the game offers hope for Japanese-North Korean relations but that is unlikely. Peace in this region is fragile. And the game whichever way it goes will only stir nationalistic fervour further.
