While a camel might be out of the question, here are some of the fascinating things we have found that would make wonderful gifts:

• Carpets - with their own distinctive style, carpets from Xinjiang, handmade by the local Uighur minority certainly add a touch of Central Asia
• Knives - great as presentation pieces Uighur knives take one right back to the age of bandits and Silk Road thieves
• Gourds - locally grown and hand-decorated Xinjiang gourds make for wonderful discussion pieces
• Bird Cages - delicate hand made wooden bird cages take one back to nightengales and the 1001 Nights
• Silk - the Silk Road was named after the silk traded between China and the Middle East and today the tradition lives on with Atlas Silk
